Appeal for witnesses following robbery in Reading

"Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Reading.

At around 5.45pm on Thursday (9/1), an elderly man was withdrawing money from a cash point on Whitley Street when a woman kicked his walking stick and stole his money.

As the woman was running away from the scene of the incident, two young men caught her and retrieved the money she had stolen, before she managed to run away again.

The victim required hospital treatment and underwent surgery for a broken hip.

Investigating officer, PC Becky Oliver, based at Reading police station, said: “I am appealing to anyone who has information that could assist with this investigation to get in touch.

“I am particularly interested in speaking with the two young men who stopped the woman and retrieved the victim's money.
