Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

I am attaching an updated list of discounts that are available to you all.   The Ring discount of 20% has been extended until the end of August.  The leaflet attached does not have the new date but it is still the same code to quote to receive the discount.

Hampshire Police have received a few reports from NS&I customers who have had their accounts compromised and savings withdrawn.

From initial reports, it appears that the customer's BT account is compromised giving the suspect access to emails and landline call forwarding functions. These services are exploited by criminals to gain control of the victims NS&I accounts. Once breached the victim's funds are withdrawn.

BT is the only telecoms provider featured in reports so far, but many other companies provide email services and landline call forwarding functionality that will allow this scam to operate.

Any email account linked to finances must have good security. If you do not have 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) on your email account, you are very vulnerable to account compromise and should consider linking those financially important accounts to a more secure email address that has 2FA.

Residents in Robins Close, Newbury were pestered yesterday by white van men (3 different ones), wanting to clean roofs, driveways and remove apple trees because of honey fungus. The final one was asking to be allowed into the back garden to inspect the trees.
Also, yesterday another local resident, but do not have their address, was called on by a Father and Son who gave a leaflet which mentioned a Bath company that carries out roofing, hedge and tree cutting, patios, fencing, drives etc and she was scammed out of £370.  They cleaned her drive and sprayed weeds with weedkiller but when daughter arrived home from work the drive was soaked and smelt of bleach.  They used her hosepipe and watering can!

Another local resident had a caller who offered to clean their drive and patio at the back for £350, which she declined.

These residents have reported the incidents to Trading Standards and the lady that was scammed has notified the Police.   Please do not agree to have work carried out by Cold Callers and always obtain 3 quotes from recommended tradesmen.

Beware of scam text messages or emails claiming to offer Asda prizes

Also, similar Tesco and other Supermarket scams and voucher offers on Facebook.  The Scammers will be hoping that you will enter your personal and most probably banking details for you to receive the prize.

There are still various Amazon, TV Licensing and delivery scams circulating and please watch out for calls from say HMRC, as scammers can spoof their genuine phone numbers to look as though the call is from them.
